U.S. health authorities advise consumers to avoid peanut butter products

On January 17, 2009, U.S. health authorities advised consumers to avoid consuming products that contain peanut butter until information becomes available about which products have been affected by a salmonella outbreak. The Centers for Disease Control reported that 474 people in 43 states have been infected by a salmonella outbreak linked to peanut butter products and that six people have died.
